Meeting Announcement


The Iowa Association of Rail is planning its next meeting at 1:00 p.m. on
Saturday, June 3, 2000, aboard the Silver Solarium private railroad
passenger car at the former Charles City and Western Railway depot off
North Main Street in Charles City, Iowa.

The program will include a presentation by car owner Nav Fosse of Nashua
about his purchase and restoration of the car. Additional presentations
will include an update on the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative and the
proposed Amtrak Mail and Express train planned to run from Chicago through
Davenport, Iowa City to Des Moines.

After the formal program, Fosse will provide a tour of the former Charles
City and Western Railway Car Barn where the car is stored.

An informal lunch will be available at a cost of $8.00 per person. The menu
is a Chicken Caesar Salad.

Because of limited seating, reservations are required for lunch and for the

The depot, between 10th and 11th Streets on Grand Avenue in Charles City is
most easily reached by going north on North Main Street, then turning right
just before the tracks.

The Iowa Association of Railroad Passengers is a statewide, non-profit
citizens' organization which supports rail passenger service--both
commercial and tourist service. IARP supports a solid rail infrastructure,
quality freight service by rail and intermodal. The group was formed in
1981 to strengthen the voice of the rail user in Iowa. The group meets at
various locations throughout the state.
